What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown, sometimes referred to as a “cap,” is a custom restoration designed to cover and restore a prepared or damaged tooth. Crowns recreate the visible portion of the tooth and can help restore its shape, strength, function, and appearance.
Depending on the clinical application, crowns may be fabricated from zirconia, lithium disilicate, titanium, or other restorative materials.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration designed to replace one or more missing teeth. The replacement tooth or teeth are connected to supporting crowns or restorations on either side of the space, creating a continuous restoration that helps restore function and appearance.

Understanding a Dental Implant
A dental implant restoration consists of several components that work together to replace a missing tooth or support a larger prosthetic restoration.
Implant
The implant is a screw-like component surgically placed into the jawbone. It serves as the foundation of the restoration and functions similarly to the root of a natural tooth.
Abutment
The abutment is a titanium attachment secured to the implant with an abutment screw. A portion of the abutment extends above the gum tissue, creating the platform used to support the final crown or restoration.
Crown
The crown is the visible, tooth-shaped portion of the restoration. For a single-tooth implant restoration, the crown is secured to the implant abutment to recreate the appearance and function of the missing tooth.
Implant Bridges
When multiple adjacent teeth are missing, implant-supported bridges can replace several teeth without requiring an individual implant for every missing tooth. Custom abutments provide support for the zirconia bridge while the implants provide a stable foundation.

All-on-X treatment uses multiple strategically positioned dental implants to support a fixed, full-arch restoration. Our All-on-X solutions incorporate custom titanium bars, custom multi-unit abutments, and Katana™ Zirconia fixed bridges to create a comprehensive full-arch restorative solution.

What Is a Surgical Guide?
A surgical guide is a custom positioning guide used during dental implant surgery to aid in precise implant placement. The guide is designed according to the planned location, angle, and position of the implant, helping the clinician accurately transfer the digital treatment plan to the patient’s mouth.
Single-Tooth Surgical Guides
Single-tooth guides are designed for cases requiring placement of an individual implant. The guide helps establish the planned position and angulation of the implant within the available space.
Multiple-Teeth Surgical Guides
For cases involving multiple implants, a surgical guide can assist with maintaining the planned positioning and relationship between each implant, helping support the restorative goals of the case.
Edentulous Surgical Guides
For patients who are fully edentulous, surgical guides can incorporate pin sleeves to help stabilize and accurately position the guide during implant placement. These guides can be especially valuable when planning multiple implants for full-arch restorations.
